A Message from our ELD Department:
The English Language Development (ELD) department at our school is dedicated to supporting students who need extra support in their journey of learning English as a second language. Accessible to students who score the lowest on their benchmark assessments at the beginning of the year, the department provides specialised instruction to help them build proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. ELD teachers work closely with regular classroom teachers in both writing and reading, ensuring that language development is integrated across the curriculum. They often use pull-out methods, where students receive targeted, small-group instruction in a separate space to focus on specific language skills.
The long-term goals of the ELD department are to help students become confident, independent learners who can thrive academically in English. By improving language fluency, students can better access content in all subject areas, participate fully in class discussions, and meet grade-level expectations. Through ongoing collaboration and individualized support, the ELD team works to ensure that each student has the tools and strategies needed to succeed in their academic journey.
A Review from the Parent Student Handbook:
This cycle we will review the Behaviour and Expectations
BIBA BEHAVIOR AND EXPECTATIONS
The BIBA Code of Conduct sets out behavioral principles connected directly to the four core values and the rights and responsibilities of all members of the BIBA community. The aim of the Code of Conduct is to ensure that:
- Greet members of the school community, guests, and all people with respect.
- Develop a sense of responsibility and accountability for their own behavior.
- Ensure that they are familiar with all behavioral expectations and procedures.
- Recognize that there are consequences for inappropriate behavior.
- Adhere to decisions of the school with regard to all expectations, rules, and consequences.
At Home
Review the list above, and discuss the reasons why these are responsible and respectful.
