News
This week we have 2 Special events: on Wednesday is Earth-day, and Thursday is World Book Day. Next Week we will be having our Mid-term Test.
Earth-day
This coming Wednesday is Earth-day. To celebrate this day I would like everyone to focus on the 3 Rs. Recycle, Reduce & Re-Use.
This year, I would like you to Re-Use something you would normally throw away. Turn it into something useful. Then send pictures of it on Wednesday in the reading group.
World Book Day
On Thursday please either dress up as your favorite book characters, OR Draw a picture of something that happens in your favorite book. You can send me the pictures in the Reading group.
Mid-term Test
This year the Mid Term test will be done the same way we did the Quiz in Week 5. A digital version and a printable version will be available. It will start on Thursday April 30th and Due on Friday May 1st.
Raz-Kids Reports.

- Kevin Zheng has reached Level T

I’m sorry I have been too busy with the moving to get an accurate check on the number of Raz-Kids Quizzes for this week.
Student Reports will start up again every 2nd Week starting after the Mid-term Test.
Today’s Work
Today we will be looking at new words, for both the Cornerstone book and the Wimpy Kid book. Reading Wimpy Kid will continue this week.
Our Favourite Authors
3 weeks ago I asked the class to write about their favorite writers. These are the responses. Excellent work.
Friday night, April 17th
The children have been doing an amazing job of using the Zoom App to take classes. We have all worked hard and learned new things this week.
Today’s lesson was quite successful and can be reviewed here.
I wanted to repost the writing assignment here because we changed a little bit of the draft checking.
The assignment
Please write a letter to Mr. Chad (me). The letter will not be from you, but will be from one character of the play “The Shoemaker and the Elves”. You will write about what happened in their life after the story.
- You must include good grade 4 grammar.
- You must include possessives
- You must use Grade 4 level spelling.
- You must use 5 or more spelling words.
- The actions that you mention in your letter must be something predictable from the story.
- You must include the parts of a letter that we have learned.
- You must peer review your drafts.
Peer Review
Peer Review is a simple way to check something before passing it in to be marked. You have been doing this in class for years now.
When you peer review, you look at someone else’s work, and you give yours to them. Then just look down the checklist above to make sure is done right. Then sign your name and send it back to me.
Peer review can be done by Monday, but the final draft is due on Wednesday
Thursday, April 16th
I have fallen behind because of my moving. Sorry. I will catch up with the marking soon.
Earlier we reviewed posessives.
Today we will be practicing posessives again. But we will also practice inferring and predicting.
Monday, April 13th
Today we held our first Zoom Class which was a success. Great work everyone. I recorded the lesson for those who want to review.
The video may be watched here.
If you don’t have the book you may get it here.
The homework from today is Page 89-90 of the work book. And to read a book. (Preferably from Raz-Kids).
Friday Evening April 10
Starting this coming week we will be trying to hold more regular classes over Zoom. We will be finally be able to talk and see each other again. But that will bring a few changes to how we will be doing things.
Zoom
This Saturday ( tomorrow morning) at 9:00, I will be testing the Zoom class. I need everyone to try and connect to it. This is our first time and I would rather discover problems tomorrow than during the class.
If you are unable to connect between 9:00 and 9:10, because of technical issues let me know right away.

Next Week
Starting Next Week I will be having 1 Zoom class per day with you. During that time we will be focusing on speach and verbal skills.
In the afternoon you will have work from your Cornerstones Workbook. That is related to what you learned in the Zoom class.
Raz-Kids will not be affected. You must still read at least 1 book from Raz kids everyday, send me a recording each week, and do at least 1 quiz (questions after the story). I will try to put more Raz books in our virtual library but if you read from that you must WeChat me to tell me which books and when
Education.com work will be relaxed. You will still be able to log in and do work on your own, but I will only assign 1 activity per week.
Science will be back to using activities from your Science book again, but I will still add Science A-Z reading every 2 weeks.
As mentioned before please upload pictures or documents of your homework into the correct spot in easyclass.com. don’t send any homework to me by WeChat unless you’re having difficulty with the easy class system.
I will not be sending Reports out starting this week. I am using this time to upload the kids current grades to Easyclass. Starting Monday, every Monday Wednesday Friday you will be able to check your current grades.
All work is due on Friday. Each Friday there will be a writing assignment which will be due on the following Friday.
Some assignments will be considered “practice” which means it will help you learn, but will not affect your grade. Those same skills will be graded in a different activity later in the same week.
Hopefully this new system will help us all progress well and help us stay organized.
