History of the APS Halloween

By Alex Sun, APS Grade 5

We APS has celebrated Halloween for four years since APS was established in 2016. Every year we have held a great Halloween Party at school.

One week before the Halloween we had begun to prepare for the party. Pumpkins are always a symbol of Halloween. We would make a Jack-o-lantern with pumpkins and brought it to school to decorate our classroom. We also decorated our classroom and hallway with some spiders, skeletons and other spooky things. Our teachers and parents would decorate the gym and make a haunted house. They would also prepare some interesting games for Halloween party.

On Halloween we would dress up in different costumes to school in the morning. Monsters, Ghosts, Pirates, Iron man, Capital American and a lot of other popular characters could be seen everywhere in the school. During Morning exercise, we would visit every APS classroom and the teachers’ office to play trick or treat, we would hold our bags open to catch the candy or other goodies that the teachers drop in.

In the afternoon our Halloween Party began at gym. First, We would like to join the Halloween games, like archery, basketball, bean bag toss etc. We would get some stars in the games and could change mysterious gifts with the stars. Then we would explore the haunted house. Our parents who dressed in ghosts, witches, vampires hid in the haunted house and scare us all the time. Finally, we would choose the best Halloween Costume in every classroom and took some pictures with our teachers and parents. Our parents also prepared lots of delicious food for the party every year, like chocolate, cakes, fruit juice and some cookies. We could enjoy this food all the party.

Halloween Party is one of the most important activity in our school and everyone loves it. We wish our Halloween Party could be held every year and more people can join us and share our pleasure.

Autumn Day

By Elsa Ling, APS Grade 5

On September 29th, we had our Autumn Day. We wear in red, orange, yellow and brown. We wear this to show our love to autumn. Autumn is a season when we harvest for our hard work.

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,

Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;

Conspiring with him how to load and bless

With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;

To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,

And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;

To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells

With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,

And still more, later flowers for the bees,

Until they think warm days will never cease,

For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.

雾气洋溢、果实圆熟的秋,

你和成熟的太阳成为友伴;

你们密谋用累累的珠球,

缀满茅屋檐下的葡萄藤蔓;

Wearing Masks

By Alex Sun, APS Grade 5

During 2020, we all wore our masks because of COVID-19. Wearing masks is very important, we should wear our masks in class and breaks. Masks protect us from COVID virus. “It just takes one person to close the school if we don’t wear masks.” said Mr. Chad. The teachers are working hard to make sure everyone has their masks on at school. We all know wearing masks is hot and makes us difficult to breathe, but the danger of the disease worth us wearing the masks.

Some students in our school didn’t wear masks occasionally. It is not a good behavior, it will bring dangers to the other students or even make themselves sick, but most of the students in our school were wearing masks well and it keeps them healthy. If you are near someone within one meter, you had better not eat or drink. Because when you are eating or drinking you have to take off your masks and it is dangerous. When you are exercising outside, do not wear your masks, you can take off your masks and get some fresh air.

COVID-19 is a kind of harsh disease and we still have not find right medicine to treat it. Be sure to put your masks on when you are close to others, it will protect you and protect others too.

STEM!

Original Article

Kid: Do you have a lot of question marks?

What medium can sound travel in best? Have you ever seen DANCING SUGAR?

How to make a hydraulic arm? Try to understand what hydraulics are.

How to use centrifugal force to serve our life?

With these interesting questions, let us walk into APS’s STEM classroom, explore and discover the mysteries of the world around us, and find answers to questions!

Mr. Chad put his speakers into a water tank, a thick cloth bag, and a sealed wooden box. The children were asked to observe and feel the speed of sound in different media. Children use a variety of cognitive models, strategies and methods to improve their cognitive abilities through group discussions. In the final report and exchange, the children felt that their learning tasks were completed wonderfully!

“My mother takes care of me very hard on weekdays. I want to invent a more efficient dryer to help my mother wash clothes!” After learning about centrifugal force, the warm-hearted children eagerly expressed their deep love for their mothers.  Love……

In this way, a series of dryers full of love and wisdom came into being…

In the process of making the hydraulic manipulator, the children observed, compared and explored in a timely manner, laying the foundation for the subsequent engineering practice and accumulating sufficient experience. After the task is completed, the children will observe and compare their own and others’ works or achievements again, as well as the observations and comparisons between their own works multiple times, helping them observe phenomena, discover problems, reflect on knowledge, and finally achieve understanding and Developed thinking.

APS’s STEM curriculum design features interdisciplinary, interesting, experiential, contextual, collaborative, design, artistic, empirical, and technological enhancement as its core features, and STEM’s novel learning methods are even more popular with children And benefit from it, allowing them to learn the methods to solve the problem while solving the problem, and obtain the simultaneous improvement of ability and literacy.

Mr. Chad leads the children to relearn and recreate based on the existing STEM education spirit, which also has a great enlightening effect on the construction of the children’s subject knowledge system and thinking development.

Welcome, like you, belong to our STEM!

Personal News

I have been trying to keep this blog free from personal things. I wanted to keep this blog for class related stuff only, but sometimes these things affect each other.

Some of you may know that I have to move to a new home next week. Due to packing, helping to organize and homeschooling my own children, I am behind on my checking of the writing assignments 1st drafts.

Since the 1st draft was due on Monday, and I am still receiving them, I will finish checking the drafts I have and send them out tonight.

I will not accept any more 1st drafts. It’s 3 days late, sorry. I am however moving the final draft due date to Monday April 13th. I will not accept any written work related to authors after lunch time on Monday.

New System

Starting on Monday we are going back to school through the internet. Which means everyday you will be in class with me through an app called “Zoom” please make sure that you have downloaded it. I will give an instructional video tomorrow for it.

Easyclass.com is the website I will be using. Unfortunately you will need to register with an Email address.

I will continue to use the blog here, but (hopefully) by April 20th all homework will be dealt with through the easyclass

The access code to join the class is “76R4-E55D”

Like last week, I would like you to watch a video about a plant called the “Vampire weed”. And answer the questions. Questions are due tomorrow. (No later please)

I am asking you to start filling in a worksheet related to your plant that you are growing. The worksheet is due on Wednesday, but every 2 days you must fill in information.

All files for today are here

Tuesday, April 7th

We are having a good start to the week. I am going to apologize in advance right now. I may be slow at correcting your work this week. I am busy with a couple of things. Some of them are for you. You will, however,  have to wait for more details.

I must say this: please try your best to do the digital work. (Linked here). I will try my best to make it easy to see and do.

I understand that the websites may not always load, and I will have paper work available in that case. But try the website work first. It is usually more fun for you, and easier for me to mark.
